Finally in South Africa

We left at 8:00 PM EST Friday and arrived at 7:00 PM, South Africa time Saturday night, then drive a few hours to Harrismith, a small town about half way between Jo-berg and Nzinga. We had our last shower for a while this morning, and are about to go have a nice breakfast, then we’re off.
Only one small problem so far. Delta lost one of our suitcases, and it is an important one. We purchased some school supply items in the US before we left, and packed them to ship here because we got such good deals there. This particular piece of luggage was full of dictionaries, calculators, protractors, and other materials. They’ve got a bit more than a week to locate it and get it to us, so hopefully everything will turn out. If not, we’ll have to figure out a Plan B. Please cross your fingers, etc. that it turns up.
We woke this morning to sounds very happily reminiscent to me and Miranda, and new and fascinating to Sheri; the “crazy laughing” of one particular bird species, and other birds only heard here. This is in a residential area of a small town, mind you. It’s good to be back in Africa.
Tomorrow we start the day with the community meeting, so Sheri will meet the Zuma family tonight, then meet the entire village in one meeting tomorrow morning.
More later.
Tom
